His Holiness the Dalai Lama returns to Dharamshala

Dharamshala: His Holiness the Dalai Lama returned here Tuesday afternoon after having rest for few days from New Delhi.

Speaker Karma Chophel, Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche and Kalon Ngodup Dongchung received His Holiness at Gaggal Airport.

The deputy speaker, members of the Kashag and members of Tibetan
Parliament-in-exile waited at His Holiness’ residence to welcome him.

At the same time, many Tibetans carrying incense and scarves
stood in line on the way to the residence to give a warm reception to
His Holiness.

The doctors at the Lilavati hospital in Mumbai (Bombay) said
there is no cause for concern about His Holiness’ health condition, but
have advised him to take a good rest after conducting a routine medical
checkup last month.

Dharamshala: After
successfully concluding his visit to Australia and Jordan, His Holiness
the Dalai Lama returned to Dharamshala on Friday afternoon.

In Australia, His Holiness delivered a five-day lecture series on
the ‘Middle Stages of Meditation’ at The Dome, Sydney Showground,
Olympic Park from 11 – 15 June. On the concluding day, His Holiness
conferred the empowerment of Chenrezig, the Buddha of compassion. More
than 7000 people from all walks of life attended the lectures.

The highlights of His Holiness’ visit included the meeting with
Chris Evans, the acting prime minister of Australia on 13 June. Prime
Minister Kevin Rudd, who was away at that time on a visit to Japan and
Indonesia, said he would have gladly met with the Dalai Lama had he
been in Australia.

His Holiness also met with federal Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson, Greens leader Bob Brown and Foreign Minister Stephen Smith.

As requested by China Freedom and Democratic Party based in
Australia, His Holiness the Dalai Lama held an exclusive meeting with
some 300 Chinese people, including some former officials from the
Chinese embassy in Australia and reporters. The office of Tibet based
in Canberra organised the meeting.

Expressing happiness over the meeting with Chinese people, His
Holiness said on various occasions, the Chinese people, especially
those from Mainland have implored him to come to China to give
teachings on Buddhism.

His Holiness underlined that Chinese people living
outside China must have a clear understanding about the situation of
Tibet, emphasising that the issue of Tibet has to be ultimately
resolved only between the Tibetans and Chinese without depending on a
third party.

In this regard, I have been making efforts to reach out to the
Chinese friends and happy indeed to be able to meet and talk to them,
His Holiness added.

During an open and interactive discussions, His Holiness
reiterated that he is not against the Chinese people, and that he
”totally support Beijing Olympic Games and the torch relay.”

From 17 – 19 June, His Holiness joined with Nobel peace
laureates including Ellie Weisel and Mikhael Gorbachev, to attend the
fourth conference of Nobel peace laureates in Jordan’s rose-red stone
city of Petra. The conference was jointly organised by Ellie Wiesel
Foundation for Humanity and King Abdullah the II Fund for Development.

The leaders discussed ways for ‘Reaching for New Economic, Scientific and Educational Horizon’, during the three-day conference.

In a session discussing world hunger, His Holiness the Dalai
Lama called for the affluent to show compassion to the less fortunate,
not least because hunger could threaten world security. “We have to
address this gap: rich and poor,” His Holiness said.
