Dharamshala: Sikyong Penpa Tsering attended the closing ceremony of the four-day International Conference on Sino-Tibet Relations, organised by the Centre for Middle Way Initiative at the Administrative Training and Welfare Society, on 29 June 2026.
The Conference brought together more than 50 participants, consisting of both Tibetan and non-Tibetan, from various regions to deliberate on prospects of Sino-Tibet dialogue through Middle Way Approach, a policy that was envisioned by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and unanimously adopted by the Tibetan Parliament in Exile as the official stand of the Central Tibetan Administration in resolving the Tibet-China conflict.
Delivering the keynote address during the ceremony, Sikyong throughly reflected on the current state of Sino-Tibet relations, reaffirmed the continued relevance of the Middle Way Approach, and underscored the importance of sustained dialogue in seeking a peaceful and mutually beneficial resolution to the Tibetan issue.
Sikyong also expressed concern over China’s recently enacted Ethnic Unity and Progress Law, stating that the legislation poses a serious threat to the preservation of Tibet’s distinct linguistic, cultural, and religious heritage, as well as the identity of the Tibetan people.
