First Tibetan School Counselors’ Conference Begins Today Tuesday, 23 September 2008, 2:44 p.m.

Dharamshala: The Department of Education inaugurated the “First Tibetan School Counselors’ Conference” at the conference hall of the Library of Tibetan Works & Archives (LTWA) in Dharamshala on Tuesday, 23 September.
During the four-day conference, the discussion will be on “Effective Implementation of Counseling Program in Tibetan Schools” and the role of counselors in view of the “Basic Education Policy” for Tibetans in exile (BEP).
Education Secretary Ven. Karma Gelek Yuthok, in his inaugural speech, spoke on the need and importance of counseling in the Tibetan schools.
Ms. Donkar Wangmo, Head Counselor of the Department of Education, gave the welcome speech where she briefed the participants of the development at the Department of Education in regard to Counseling Program.
Additional Secretary Tashi N. Rikha and Education Officer Tsering Phuntsok were also present on the occasion.
Education Kalon Thupten Lungrig and Secretary Ven. Karma G Yuthok will speak on the BEP. The other speakers, including Mr. Karma Chungdak and Ven. Geshe Lhakdor, director of LTWA, will speak on “Holistic Education and Counseling” and “Fundamentals of Buddhism and Science of Mind and Phenomena” respectively.
Nine school counselors from Tibetan Children’s Village and Tibetan Homes Foundation including 3 DOE zonal counselors are participating in the conference. During the conference, they will also visit Mevon Peton Tsuglag School, the first BEP model school and CTA complex. The conference concludes on 26 September and Education Kalon will give the valedictory speech to the participants.
