Russian media coverage on His Holiness and Tibet

Moscow: The Russian media group, which visited Dharamshala in December 2006 in connection with the presentation of the award of the highest order of Kalmyk Republic “The White Lotus” to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, had covered a wide range of information on Tibet, its present situation, ongoing dialogue with the People’s Republic of China, and the role of His Holiness in bringing peace in today’s world.
On 24 December 2006 the Russian Ren-TV channel relayed a detailed interview of His Holiness covering a full range of issues related to Tibet, China, global political, social and environmental problems.
On 28 December 2006 and on 1 January 2007 the Russian popular radio station “Echo Moskvi” relayed a detailed interview with His Holiness, which lasted for 48 minutes.

During the relay of the radio interview a panel discussion was also held with the participation of three journalists, including the one who visited Dharamshala.
The programme also highlighted comments of various people in the streets of Russia on His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Out of 300 people whose opinions were solicited, 84.4% had expressed their wish for His Holiness to be the head of the Russian Federation.
On 3 and 5 January 2007 the Russian channel TVC relayed a detailed interview of His Holiness in which he conveyed best wishes and greetings to the people of Russia on the occasion of the New Year.
In Kalmykia, the local mass media covered a wide range of issues relating to Tibet, its culture, philosophy, the historical relationship between Tibet and Kalmykia and the present good relations between the two.
It is expected that millions of people in the Russian-speaking world might viewed the reports as these TV channels and the radio stations are popular in Russia.
