Dharamshala: The Department of
Education of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) is giving an
orientation course for the 2008 batch students of the Tibetan
Scholarship Programme (TSP) at the Lhakpa Tsering Memorial Hall of the
Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR).
Every year the department provides Fulbright Scholarship for higher
studies to deserving graduate students to study in US and the selected
persons are given orientation course before leaving.
The orientation course, which began today, was opened with a
speech by Ven Yuthok Karma Gelek, secretary of Education Department, on
the Tibetan scholarship programme.
Following which the Information secretary, Mr. Thubten Samphel
briefed them on present condition of Tibet in the international
scenario.
They also heard about the Middle-Way-Approach from Mr.Dagpo Sonam Norbu, secretary of International Relations.
Mr. Jampa Monlam of the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and
Democracy briefed them on the human rights situation in Tibet and Ms.
Chokey, environment and development desk of DIIR, briefed them on the
present environment conditions in Tibet.
Geshe Lhakdor, Director of the library of tibetan works and
archives will tomorrow brief them on the fundamentals of the Buddhism.
They will be introduced to the Tibetan Fulbright Alumni
Associataion (TFFA) in the afternoon. The two-day orientation course
will conclude with a discussion with Mrs. Tashi Dolma, joint secretary
of the Education Department.
The New York-based Tibet Fund will host a dinner to the 2008 batch students of the Tibetan Scholarship Programme (TSP) tomorrow.
