Senate congratulates His Holiness on Australian visit

Dharamshala: The Australian Senate has on Tuesday passed a motion congratulating His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his visit to Australia.
The motion moved by Bob Brown was passed without dissent.
It reads: “That the Senate congratulates the Dalai Lama for his dignity, compassion and forbearance during his popular visit to Australia.”
Some 62 senators and MPs attended the parliamentary reception hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Group for His Holiness on 12 June.
They constituted one third of the total members of the federal Parliament, and represented five different political parties.
The chairman, Michael Danby of Labour Party gave the welcome speech, while the vote of thanks was delivered by the vice chairman, Peter Slipper of the ruling Liberal Party.
Senator Bow Brown, leader of the Green Party, and Senator Natasha Stott Despoja, foreign affairs spokesperson of the Democratic Party also spoke briefly in support of His Holiness’ Middle Way Approach.
