Delek Hospital offers training in basic epidemiology

Dharamshala: The Tibetan Delek Hospital yesterday began a two-day training in basic epidemiology for health personnel based on both traditional and allopathic systems of medicine.
Health Kalon Mrs Kesang Yangkyi Takla was the chief guest on the inaugural function held at the conference hall of Delek Hospital. Also present were Health Secretary Pema Damdul Arya, Dr. Tsetan, CMO of Delek Hospital, administrator of Delek hospital Dawa Phunkyi, Dawa, director of Tibetan Medical & Astro Institute (Mentseekhang).
The personnel from the Planning Council of Central Tibetan Administration, Health Department’s data section and medical students of Mentseekhang are attending the training.
The first day of the training focused on basic epidemiology of Tuberculosis (TB) and Hepatitis B, including new TB diagnostics and drugs, purpose, definitions, types of studies and how they are used, etc.

Practice session on calculating rates, selecting appropriate numerators and denominators were also discussed.
The participants will today discuss descriptive epidemiology for program planning and evaluation, along with practice session on planning basic surveillance for program use and presentations from the participants as workgroups.
The participants also took part in interactive question and answer session on epidemiology issues.
