Tibet protests complete 3 months
June 10 marks the completion of 3 months of people’s uprising in Tibet
since it first broke out on March 10, 2008. The protests began from
Lhasa, which quickly spread to Amdo and Kham.
Various forms of protests were carried out in all over the
three traditional provinces of Tibet. Even the Tibetan students from
universities in Chinese cities have staged protests in solidarity.
Innumerable protests were staged in most of the Tibetan areas
irrespective of monks or lay people, officials or general public, city,
town, nomadic or agricultural villages. Protestors were comprised of
people above 80 and 11-year of age. Lamas, trulkus, geshes, monks,
nuns, government officials, artists, teachers, doctors, students,
farmers, nomads, business people, and beggars have participated in the
protests. Some Tibetan Public Security Bureau (PSB) personnel were also
punished for their loyalty to Tibet.
We have compiled a confirmed list of the total number of
deaths, injuries and arrests or detentions of Tibetans, reported during
the peaceful protests in the three traditional provinces of Tibet, from
March 10 March – 31 May 2008.
These figures are based on information and news reports
collected from different sources. Facts and figures given by the
different sources have been meticulously examined and tallied with each
other.
After having done this, we can confirm that the figure for:
