Dharamshala: The Tibetan Association of Washington, Seattle has decided not to stage any protests or demonstrations during the visit of Chinese president Hu Jintao to Seattle, US, next week.
According to Tashi Namgyal, President of the Tibetan Association of Washington, the decision has been taken in view of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 10 March statement and the subsequent appeal of the Kashag.
The press release issued by the association on 11 April says “The Committee felt that if our actions could contribute to creating a conducive atmosphere in Sino-Tibetan relations vis-à-vis negotiation process, every single Tibetan and their supporters have a moral responsibility to help in the process”.
It further says, “We feel His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration have gone to great extent to provide an appropriate environment to resolve the Tibetan problem through dialogues. We, however, do not see any concrete change in the Chinese Government’s attitude towards His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people even after the much talked about re-establishment of direct contact between His Holiness’ envoys and the Chinese leadership”.
The Tibetan Association of Washington is a non-profit organisation of Tibetans in the State of Washington. It strives to preserve and promote the unique Tibetan cultural tradition within the Tibetan community and further the just cause of Tibet.
