Ladakh Phuntsok Performs in Tokyo
Dharamshala, 16 August 2005– Ladakh Phuntsok, a well-known actor, singer and a filmmaker from Ladakh, India, was in Tokyo recently to perform and teach yoga.
He was invited by the Tokyo-based Tibet House to share some of his talents with the local Tibetan community and the Japanese members of the Tibet Support Net.
He also screened his film “Purigpa”, a documentary on the Purigpa community in Kargil commissioned by the Ministry of Tribal, Government of India.
The film documents the close links between the people of Ladakh region and Tibet.
He noted that Purigpa actually means “Bod-Rigpa” (Tibetan race).
Mr. Phuntsok also sang some popular songs from his “Dhammavani” album, a collection of devotional songs in praise of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
His songs and comments on the importance of Tibetan culture to the Himalayan region struck a sentimental chord among the Tibetan audience.
