International Bhikkhuni Sangha day Celebration in Bengaluru.
Bangaluru: Chief Representative of South zone has requested Ven. Tenzin Choeyang from Jangchup Choeling Nunnery, based in Doeguling Tibetan Settlement, to participate in the International Bhikkhuni Sangha Day celebration event as per an invitation letter received from the Mahaprajapati Gautami Educational Foundation from 21 to 22 September, 2024.
Ven. Tenzin Choeyang, took part in the event as representative of Nunnery as a guest speaker organised by the Mahaprajapati Educational Foundation at Dr Ambedkar Bhavan, Bangalore. The two-day event brought together over 300 participants from Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tibet, and across India.
She highlighted the significance of both modern and Dharma education in ensuring the transmission of Buddha Dharma to future generations, and its role in promoting peace in the world. She also touched upon the history of Tibetan Buddhist nuns and the transformative impact of His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama’s guidance on our education.
The experience left a deep impression on her. She was particularly inspired by the determination of the Bhikkhunis in reestablishing the women’s Sangha in India after many centuries, despite limited resources and support from local communities and the government. Watching them lecturing to their communities with joy and enthusiasm, even without basic comforts, reminded her that we Tibetan nuns must take greater action to raise awareness of the Dharma by knowing the fact that we have had the special privilege of years of in-depth study and strong community support.
Hearing their stories of struggle in becoming nuns deeply resonated with her own journey. However, she also recognise that day, there are more opportunities for us to rise above such difficulties. Their perseverance reminded her of the importance of supporting each other on the path of Dharma.
