Tenzingang, 10 July 2026: His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 91st Birthday was jointly celebrated by the Tibetan, Monpa, and Sherdukpen communities of West Kameng District, Arunachal Pradesh, on 6 July 2026 at the Tenzingang Tibetan Settlement under the leadership of Chief Patron, Hon’ble MLA Shri Tseten Chombay.
The celebration was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Home Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Shri Mama Natung, Hon’ble MLAs Shri Jikke Tako and Shri Tenzin Nyima Glow, along with many other distinguished dignitaries, who joined in celebrating the 91st Birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at Tenzingang.
The occasion was far more than a birthday celebration—it was a beautiful reflection of unity, brotherhood, peace, compassion, and the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of the Buddhist communities. Witnessing such a grand gathering, filled with vibrant traditions and unwavering devotion, truly reaffirmed the timeless values that His Holiness has dedicated his life to promoting.
Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Mama Natung, the Chief Guest, addressed the gathering and highlighted that Tibetan Buddhism originated from India, the Land of the Buddha, and that the Buddha Dharma later spread from India to Tibet and many other Asian countries. He also emphasised the cordial relationship between Hinduism and Buddhism. He conveyed his heartfelt birthday wishes to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, praying for his good health and long life for the benefit of humanity.
The programme commenced with the Indian and Tibetan National Anthems, followed by the plantation of Thuja trees by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries as a symbolic gesture towards environmental protection. Before the formal proceedings began, the gathering observed a one-minute silence in memory of Tibetan activist Loga Rangzen, who self-immolated outside the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 2 July 2026.
The day was further enlivened by vibrant cultural performances presented by various communities of the region, reflecting the rich diversity, spiritual depth, and cultural heritage of the people.
As part of the “Year of Compassion” (Gothon) initiative, the Tibetan Settlement Office organised an exhibition on the life and biography of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Community Hall. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Mama Natung. A total of 82 framed panels depicting the life and achievements of His Holiness the Dalai Lama were displayed for the general public.
The Celebration Committee, under the exemplary leadership of Chairman ADC Rupa Shri Lobsang Tsetan and Co-Chairman ADC Kalaktang Shri Pema Dorjee, deserves sincere appreciation for successfully organising this magnificent event.
TSO Shri Rapten Tsering expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Tukpen Village Council, Shergaon Village Council, Local Tibetan Assembly, Gyuto Monastery, Kalaktang Tsokpa, volunteers, and all committee members for their tireless support and dedicated efforts in making the celebration a resounding success.
