
Miao: The Choephelling Tibetan Settlement in Miao solemnly observed the occasion of 91st Birth Anniversary Celebration of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama at TR Camp, Miao, with great devotion, reverence, and enthusiasm. The Ghoton celebration was held on 6 and 7 July 2026.
On 6 July, the programme was graced by Hon’ble Minister Shri Wangki Lowang, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Vishal Shah, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Changlang, as the Guest of Honour. Other distinguished guests included Shri L. Thungon, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jairampur; Shri W. Dorjee, SDO, Kharsang; and Shri K. Padu, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Changlang.
The first day of the celebration commenced with traditional Buddhist prayers and long-life offerings for His Holiness and arrival of the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour, who collectively presented ceremonial scarf (Khatak) before the portrait of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
A ceremonial cake-cutting was jointly conducted by the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour to mark the joyous occasion. After the introduction and welcome speech by Kalsang Chodon (Office Accountant), the programme then continued with cultural performances presented by students, all five camps , RTWA and local artists showcasing the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Tibet.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries highlighted the timeless teachings of His Holiness on peace, compassion, non-violence, and universal brotherhood, and encouraged everyone, especially the younger generation, to uphold these values in their daily lives. Special prayers were also offered for world peace, communal harmony, and the well-being of all sentient beings.
Lunch was then served to all the invitees and the public. The afternoon concluded with a series of engaging fun activities, including a final football match between Camp No. 1 and 4.
On 7 July, Nezin Rinpoche was invited as the chief guest of the day, celebrated with the members of the settlement. The celebration was held at the outdoor hall. Nezin Rinpoche was warmly welcomed by local Tibetan dignitaries.
The programme continued with a vibrant lineup of cultural performances that delighted the audience. Lunch was then served to Choephelling Tibetan Settlement’s dignitaries and the public. In the afternoon, settlers took part in a variety of games and activities, enjoying the festivities according to their interests.
Finally, the H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama’s 91st Birthday celebration was concluded with a final competitive basketball match between Camp No. 1 and 4.
