Dharamshala: The Jangthang region of Ladakh is home to a large Tibetan community spread across nine scattered communities. They live a nomadic lifestyle, relying on sheep, goats, and yaks for their livelihood. These animals are essential for both their survival and the preservation of their traditional culture.
Today, on behalf of Central Tibetan Relief Committee (CTRC), I reach out with a heavy heart to share the dire situation faced by these communities. Recently, a catastrophic snowstorm swept through Jangthang, claiming the lives of 4,140 livestock, devastating over 240 families. This loss is not just a number—it is a severe blow to their livelihood, culture, and way of life.
Living in one of the most inhospitable environments, these families now face immense hardship. The loss of livestock has taken away their main source of income from wool and dairy products and drastically reduced their daily sustenance. This disaster threatens their immediate health, safety, and the continuity of their traditional way of life.
How You Can Help: We have launched a crowdfunding campaign to provide immediate relief to assist the affected families in long-term and your support is crucial. If you wish to provide donations, kindly reach your concerned Settlement Office or the nearest Office of Tibet if you are residing outside India.
Spread the Word: Help us reach as many people as possible by sharing this message through your networks, on social media, and within your community.
This appeal is more than a request for donations; it is a plea for compassion and solidarity with a community in dire need. These families have endured the brutal forces of nature and now look to the kindness of people like you to help them rebuild their lives.
