Dharamshala: The UN & Human Rights Desk under the Department of Information and International Relations commenced a month-long virtual training program in collaboration with the Unrepresented Nations and People’s Organization (UNPO) headquartered in Brussels for the Tibetan civil societies based in Dharamshala and for a few select-staff members of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) on 28 August 2020.
The training titled “Unrepresented Diplomats Training” is aimed at improving capacities to effectively advocate for the Tibetan cause with strategic planning and persuasive communications to the targeted audience. The training program is divided into four sessions to be imparted on a weekly basis.
The trainers Dr. Fiona McConnell, Associate Professor in Human Geography and Tutorial Fellow at St. Catherine’s College, University of Oxford; Ms. Lucia Parrucci, Advocacy and Training Coordinator, UNPO; Merce Monje Cano, UN coordinator, UNPO; and Ralph J. Bunche, General Secretary of UNPO conducted the first introductory session.
Tibetan civil societies: Students for a Free Tibet, Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy, Tibetan Youth Congress, Tibet Watch, Gu-Chu-Sum, and International Tibet Network participated in the training program.
“Through this training program, we intend to impart the basic understanding of the complex UN structure and also the various avenues available for the Tibetan civil societies to interact with the UN. It will impart the necessary skills required for effective communication,” said UN & Human Rights Desk staff Ms. Tenzin Dhadon.
