Kathmandu: The Tibetan Refugee Welfare Office in Kathmandu (Office of Tibet), in collaboration with the Guru Bhumtsok Organising Committee and members of the three Tibetan communities in Kathmandu, organised the annual Maha Guru Million Mantra Prayer Offering at Shechen Tennyi Dargyeling Monastery from 22 to 24 June and from 8 to 10 May 2026. The Guru Bhumtsok Organising Committee has been conducting the annual Mahaguru Million Prayer Offering and related activities dedicated to the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama since 1978.
The three-day programme featured a mass accumulation of offerings and prayers based on the Northern Treasures (Byang-gter) Rigdzin Dungdrup practice. The prayers and rituals were offered for the long life and well-being of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and included long-life prayers (Zhabten), offerings, and other religious ceremonies.
The event brought together monks and practitioners from the six mother monasteries of the Nyingma tradition situated around the Jarung Khashor Stupa (Boudhanath Stupa) in Nepal, as well as monastic communities from various non-sectarian monasteries under the jurisdiction of the three regional Tibetan representatives.
Held under the guidance of esteemed Rinpoches, Lamas, Tulkus, Khenpos, Lopons, and Geshes, the gathering saw the participation of monks, nuns, and Buddhist devotees from different monasteries and communities.
The ceremonies took place at Shechen Monastery, one of the six major ancient Nyingma monasteries located near the Swayambhunath Stupa in Kathmandu. The organising committee also arranged hospitality and other necessary services for participants to ensure the successful completion of the prayers and offerings dedicated to the welfare of religion and the Tibetan people.
