Dharamshala: The Tibetan Nuns Project (TNP), in partnership with the Women’s Empowerment Desk (WED), organised a five-day workshop at the Dolma Ling Nunnery titled “Dolma Ling Geshemas Strategic Visioning Workshop” from 8 to 12 April 2024. The workshop aimed to explore the future vision of the Geshemas (holders of the highest academic degree in Tibetan Buddhism), strengthen their existing skills and knowledge, and support their participation in the larger social realm. The goal was to empower the Geshema to contribute back to the community through various leadership roles.
Throughout the five days, attendees engaged in discussions on a range of topics, including effective communication, problem-solving, active listening, gender and leadership, leadership qualities and styles, team-building exercises, visualisation exercises, a world café exercise to explore their visions, and communication origami. These interactive activities allowed Geshemas to participate enthusiastically and provided valuable opportunities for collaboration and learning.
The workshop was attended by seven Geshema and five aspiring Geshema, creating a rich environment for mentorship and growth.
Kasur (former Kalon) Rinchen Khando honoured the event with her presence on the first day. She emphasised the evolution and significance of the Geshema degree, highlighting how the Geshema’s contributions to the Tibetan community and Buddhist philosophy play a pivotal role in shaping history.
Her address set the stage for meaningful conversations and connections throughout the workshop.
Overall, the workshop served as a platform for Geshema to strengthen their leadership capabilities and envision a stronger future for themselves and their communities.
