
Taipei: The Office of Tibet, Taipei, in collaboration with the Tibetan Association of Taiwan, organised a grand commemorative event at the Howard Plaza Hotel in Taipei to mark the 36th anniversary of the conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama and to express gratitude to His Holiness. The celebration was held from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the participation of around 150 guests.
The evening’s distinguished guests included the Abbot of Sera Mey Monastery, Venerable Tenzin Gelek Rinpoche; Yao Jia-Wen, Advisor to the Presidential Office of Taiwan; Hung Shen-Han, Taiwan’s Minister of Labour; Tien Chiu-Chin, Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission, Taiwan; Wu Pei-Yu, President of the Taiwan Parliamentary Tibet Support Group; and Huang Po-Yu, representative of Taiwan’s Local Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet. Representatives from government and non-governmental organisations, foreign missions in Taiwan, the Taiwan Tibetan Buddhist Research Center, the International Taiwan Tibetan Buddhism Association, and long-time friends of Tibet were also in attendance.
The programme began with a singing of Tibetan national anthem, followed by a minute of silence in honour of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet. A recorded teaching of His Holiness the Dalai Lama was then screened, after which the chief guests delivered remarks highlighting the significance of the occasion.
The evebt featured presentation of vibrant cultural performances from Tsering Lhundup, the Tibetan Association of Taiwan, and the Karma Kagyu Dharma Chakra Center in Taipei, adding colour and joy to the celebration.
