Shillong: Tibetans in Shillong marked the 62nd anniversary of Tibetan Women’s Uprising day and the official celebration of Tibetan Women’s Day at the Buddhist monastery, Shillong.
The Tibetan community gathered at the monastery premises to attend the official celebration of Tibetan women’s day and to commemorate the 62nd Tibetan women’s Uprising day to honours the courage and spirit of the martyrs.
The commemoration ceremony began with mass prayers for the longevity of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the martyrs who have sacrificed their precious life for the cause of Tibet. The secretary and accountant of the Regional Women association delivered the statement of the Central Women association on the occasion. This was followed by a speech from Mr. Pema Dhondup, Tibetan settlement officer.
As a part of the women’s empowerment program, Ms Tenzin Pema was awarded prize money for her outstanding achievement in the class XII exam. Later after the official program, the Settlement officer convened a meeting with the local stakeholders pertaining to the Women’s empowerment program.
