
Paris: The Tibetan community in Paris celebrated the 27th anniversary of the conferment of Nobel Peace Prize to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 10 December 1989. The celebration was attend by over 300 Tibetans despite it being a working day.
Nyima Lhamo, niece of Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, who is on a visit to France also attended the event and spoke to the Tibetans about the circumstances surrounding the death of her uncle in Chinese prison.
She urged all Tibetans to recognise and act on the responsibility each one of us have to speak up for our brethren suffering inside Tibet under the Chinese repression.
The Secretary of Bureau du Tibet in Paris, Mr Tsering Dhondup read out the Kashag’s statement on the occasion.
The President of the Tibetan Community in France, Mr Ngawang Tenpa also addressed the gathering.
Following a brief prayer session for the long life of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, and in homage to the Tibetan men and women who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet, the event was marked by spectacular cultural performances by the cultural troupe of the Tibetan community in France and by individual performers.
Earlier the day, along with the members of other Asian communities under oppression, Tibetan community also participated in a peace rally to observe the International Human Rights Day. The Rally was organised by the Federation of Asian Communities under Oppression, that included Vietnamese, Laotian, Cambodian, Uighur, and Tibetans.
The Tibetans drew attention to the deteriorating human rights situation inside Tibet, and particularly on the forced eviction of Tibetan monks and nuns and destruction of the Larung Gar Buddhist institute.
Nyima Lhamo also addressed the rally. She called for independent investigation into the death of her uncle in prison, Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, and justice for each of the Tibetan political prisoners suffering in Chinese prisons in Tibet.
