
Dharamshala: Tibetans across the globe on Saturday marked the jovial occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Nobel Peace Prize conferment on His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Led by the Central Tibetan Administration, Tibetans in the diaspora observed elaborate ceremonies to honour the milestone.
The Tibetan community in Odisha settlement marked the occasion with felicitation of outstanding achievements earned by some residents in respective fields of academics and professions. This year’s Yarlung Sotang Best Farmer award and outstanding academic award were conferred to the winners. Official statements of the Kashag and the Tibetan Parliament were read to the gathering, followed by cultural performances to conclude the celebration.
The event was attended by distinguished leaders of the settlement, including heads of the monastic institution and Tibetan associations.
The Chief Representative Office, Bengaluru, TCV Tibetan Youth Hostel and Sera Jey Buddha Vihara, Cox Town, Bengaluru jointly organized the 33rd anniversary of Nobel Peace Prize Day on 10th Dec, 2022 at Buddha Vihara. The Chief Guest of the event was Father Kurian Kachappilly Joseph, Professor of Philosophy & Religion, Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Christ, Deemed to be University, Bengaluru who graced the event by his presence.
Then, the Chief Representative Officer, Jigmey Tsultrim made the opening remarks and also read out the statement of the Kashag followed by Rangden Tsokchung’s member, Choesang reading out of the Statement of Tibetan Parliament in exile. Thereafter, prayer recitation for World Peace and long life of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama followed. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Coordinator of Sera Jey Buddha Vihara,Sonam Tenzin.
The evening program was held at the hall of Tibetan Youth Hostel which was jointly organized as usual by the Chief Representative Office, Tibetan Youth Hostel and ITFS, Bengaluru. The Chief Guest of the event was Sh. Madan Krishan Gopal , former ACS of Forest Department and Guest of Honor, Smt. Ann Britto.
The Chief Representative Officer, Jigmey Tsultrim gave a welcome speech followed by speech of Chief Guest and Guest of Honor. Then Chief Representative Officer, Jigmey Tsultrim felicitated the Chief Guest on recently being awarded the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award and Representative of Shivajinagar Tibetan Sweater Seller, Sonam Dhargay felicitated Smt. Ann Britto on behalf of tremendous contributions to the Tibetan society by her late husband, Duarte Baretto.
It was followed by a Tibetan cultural dance performance by the students of Tibetan Youth Hostel and also a Kannada song sung by Tenzin Tsephel and Tsering Chonzom. The event was concluded successfully with a vote of thanks from the Director of TCV Tibetan Youth Hostel and Gorshey with students and public.
It was attended by the chief guest, Kyabje Shichu Rinpoche, the abbots of Samtenling and Shelkar Choede monasteries, monastics, Representative of Office of Tibet-Kathmandu, concerned Parliamentarians and former Parliamentarians, special guest, US officials Jasson Week, Political Associate Lindsay Seuc, Dr. Gopal Shivakoti, President of INHURED International and Mr. Bhawani Prasad Kharel, President of National Human Rights Foundation.
Also, in attendance were President of local Tibetan Assembly, settlement officer and former settlement officer, and Representatives of local bodies as well as students and the public.
The statement of the Tibetan Parliament was read out by Parliamentarian Tashi Dhondup and the statement of the Kashag by Representative Tsepri Lopan Trulku Nagawang Dorje of Office of Tibet, Kathmandu. Following this the chief guest delivered a brief address and the programme concluded with a cultural performance by the local opera troupe.
