Brussels: The Tibetan community in Belgium gathered in front of the Chinese Embassy in Brussels to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day on 10 March 2025.
This year’s official function began at Merode Metro Station, Brussels, unlike last year’s event. The ceremony was organised by the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) Brussels in collaboration with the Tibetan Community and Tibet Support Group Lungta. Malenia, Policy and Advocacy Officer of the International Campaign for Tibet in Brussels, delivered the opening remarks. Following this, the Tibetan National Anthem was sung, and a one-minute silence was observed to honour and pay respect to the martyrs who gave their lives in the Tibetan struggle for freedom and justice.
Secretary Thinley Wangdue from the Office of Tibet in Brussels then read the 16th Kashag’s 10th March Statement. He expressed gratitude to the attendees for their support and participation in marking this important day in Tibetan history. The ceremony continued with the singing of the Longsho Song and the Songs of 10 March Remembrance.
After the official function, Tibetans and their supporters marched peacefully to the Chinese Embassy, where they held a demonstration for nearly an hour. Despite the 10th March anniversary falling on a Monday and a larger gathering taking place in The Hague, Netherlands, the event in Brussels saw a smaller turnout of Tibetans from six major cities in Belgium.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Secretary Thinley Wangdue, who thanked everyone for their participation. The ceremony was also marked by a recitation of Words of Truth (Den-Tsik Monlam). Secretary Thinley Wangdue was accompanied by Accountant Tenzin Nordhen from the Office of Tibet, Brussels.
