DHARAMSHALA: The Central Tibetan Administration is deeply saddened by the continuing tragic self-immolations by Tibetans in protest against the repressive policies of the Chinese government.
Lobsang Namgyal, 37, a monk of Kirti monastery, died after setting himself near the local police station in Dzoege in Ngaba, north-eastern Tibet, on 3 February 2013. He raised slogans for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Earlier in September 2012, he went missing for about two weeks and it was later known that he was secretly arrested by the Chinese police. After his release, local Chinese authorities continued to harass him, forcing him to move out of the monastery to live with his parents.
In yet another incident, a Tibetan monk set himself on fire in Kathmandu, Nepal, on 13 February. The details of the incident are not available, therefore not verifiable.
