Vienna: On 10 March 2026, Vienna witnessed a significant gathering as Tibetans and Chinese activists united to mark the 67th Tibetan National Uprising Day. This day, remembered worldwide, symbolises the enduring struggle of the Tibetan people for freedom, justice, and the preservation of their cultural identity. The protest in Vienna began at the Chinese Embassy, where demonstrators expressed their demands for human rights and an end to oppression in Tibet. Their presence served as a powerful reminder of the international dimension of the Tibetan cause.
After the initial demonstration, the participants marched peacefully through Vienna’s inner city. Their route, through bustling streets and prominent city areas, attracted public attention and fostered dialogue about Tibet’s ongoing challenges. The march culminated in a continued demonstration in front of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, one of Vienna’s most iconic landmarks, reinforcing the visibility of their message and the peaceful nature of their protest.
The event was supported by multiple Tibetan and non-Tibetan organisations dedicated to human rights and the Tibet cause. These included the regional chapter of Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group, Save Tibet, Students for a Free Tibet (SFT), Youth for Human Rights Austria, Chinese democratic activists, and the Tibetan Community of Austria. Their collective efforts underscored the solidarity among diverse groups advocating for freedom, democratic values, and respect for human rights.
The Tibetan Community of Austria expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and supporters who joined the demonstration. Their contribution highlighted the importance of civic engagement and international solidarity in keeping the Tibetan cause in global awareness. Demonstrations like this not only honor the resilience of the Tibetan people but also reaffirm the commitment of activists and communities worldwide to the principles of justice and human dignity.
The 67th Tibetan National Uprising Day in Vienna was thus both a commemoration of history and a renewed call to action. It illustrated the ongoing struggle for Tibet’s freedom and the unity of those who stand in support of human rights, ensuring that the Tibetan voice continues to resonate across borders.
