As part of the ongoing Tibet advocacy efforts organised by the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, a delegation of parliamentarians, including Geshe Lharampa Gowo Lobsang Phende and Wangdue Dorjee, continued their European outreach in Latvia on 13 November 2024.
The delegation met with the Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, Daiga Mieriņa, as well as with MP Juris Viļums, Chair of the Group for the Support of Tibet in the Saeima, and MP Aleksandrs Kirsteins. During these meetings, the Tibetan representatives raised concerns about the deteriorating situation inside Tibet and urged continued support for the Tibetan cause.
In addition, the delegation met with Andrew Byrley, a diplomat from the U.S. Embassy in Riga, to express their gratitude for the United States’ longstanding support for Tibet.
Accompanying the Tibetan delegation were Kunga, Secretary of the Office of Tibet in London, and Janis Martin Skuja, a prominent Latvian supporter of Tibet.
These discussions are part of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile’s broader efforts to strengthen international advocacy and raise awareness about the ongoing challenges faced by Tibetans.
