Vilnius: Tibet Support Groups and friends of Tibet in Lithuania commemorated the 61st anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising of 10 March 1959 through a peaceful picket in front of the Chinese Embassy in Vilnius on 10 March.
The supporters expressed solidarity with the non-violent Tibetan struggle and also expressed the picket as a token of gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The event was attended by two MP Andrius Navickas and MP Mantas Adomėnas and received extensive media coverage.
“On the eve of the restoration of independence, we remember a nation that does not have freedom now but was with us at a time when we were fighting for our freedom,” Vytis Vydūnas, a Sanskrit lecturer at Vilnius University said, as reported by diena.lt.
“Being here expresses our view of freedom and shows that we are ready to fight for it,” added V. Vydūnas.
Participants also recalled the Dalai Lama’s XIV telegram to Lithuania, on which he congratulated Lithuanians on April 3, 1990, after the restoration of independence and expressed his support.
