
Geneva: A delegation from Dharamshala, comprising Joint Secretary Gedun Dhonyoe of the Department of Education; Language Teacher Passang Tsering from Mewoen Tsuglag Petoen School; and Kindergarten Teacher Jampa Palmo from Upper Tibetan Children’s Village School, visited the Weekend Tibetan Language and Cultural Schools in Zug and Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland, on 17 September 2025 to conduct an educational assessment.
The delegation was accompanied by Dhondup Gyalpo, Tibetan Liaison Officer for European Countries; Tenzin Choesang, representative of the Tibet Bureau in Geneva; and Karma Choekyi, Director of the Tibetan Language and Cultural Schools under the Tibetan Community in Switzerland and Liechtenstein (TCSL).
During classroom visits, Liaison Officer Dhondup Gyalpo emphasised to students and parents the importance of preserving Tibet’s rich and unique cultural and linguistic heritage. He also encouraged parents to spend more time with their children to help integrate these traditions into daily life. Similarly, Joint Secretary Gedun Dhonyoe introduced the syllabus for the weekend schools and shared insights on pre-lesson preparation with the teachers. Tutors Passang Tsering and Jampa Palmo also shared their teaching experiences, facilitating an exchange of ideas and best practices.
The visit was also joined by the Vice President of TCSL and a representative of the Rapperswil-Jona Tibetan community.
Prior to the school visits, on 13 and 14 September, the delegation from Dharamshala conducted a workshop for teachers of the Weekend Tibetan Language and Cultural Schools in the region.
