
Dharamshala, 14 July 2026: The 9th CTA-Level STEM Exhibition commenced today at Mewoen Tsuglag Petoen School in the presence of the Secretary of the Department of Education, CTA, Karma Choeying, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Lalminthang Kipgen from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) as the Guest of Honour. They were joined by Jamyang Wangyal, Head of the Academic Section, along with other officials from the Department of Education, the Education Director of Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV), and the Director and Deputy Directors of Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society (STSS).
Organised annually by the Department of Education, CTA, the STEM Exhibition provides a platform for students to showcase their creativity, critical thinking, innovation, and practical scientific skills. This year, the competition received 139 exhibits from 20 Tibetan schools. Following the preliminary screening, 42 outstanding exhibits from 16 schools were selected for the final exhibition. From these, approximately 10 to 12 exhibits will be nominated to represent Tibetan schools at the upcoming NCERT National-Level STEM Exhibition, where they will undergo further evaluation and selection.
The inaugural programme began with a welcome address, followed by a traditional cultural performance presented by the host school.
Dr. Lalminthang Kipgen then delivered an introduction to the NCERT National-Level STEM Exhibition, outlining its objectives and selection process. Jamyang Wangyal, Head of the Academic Section, presented an overview of the Department of Education’s STEM initiatives, highlighting its continued commitment to strengthening STEM education in Tibetan schools through the establishment of science centres, orientation workshops for science teachers, STEM educational excursions, and internship opportunities for students pursuing science.
Education Secretary Karma Choeying has encouraged students to embrace curiosity, innovation, and scientific inquiry, emphasising the importance of STEM education in preparing future generations to meet global challenges. In his keynote address, on behalf of the Department of Education, appreciated the panel of judges for dedicating their valuable time and expertise to the exhibition.
The four-day exhibition will continue until 17 July 2026, and the Department of Education has invited Tibetan schools in and around Dharamshala to visit the exhibition and encourage students to engage with the innovative projects on display.
