
The Commemoration of the 89th Birthday Anniversary celebration of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama by the Tibetan Community in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Nepal: The Tibetan community in Kathmandu, Nepal, officially commemorated the 89th birthday anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at Hyolmo Monastery near Boudha stupa on 6 July 2024.
Ven Shri Chusang Rinpoche was the chief guest of the celebration, and Tsepri Lopan Tulku Ngawang Chokdup, who was appointed as the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Office of Tibet in Nepal, along with Khen Rinpoche of Samten Ling and Shelkar Choede monastery, was the special guest.
In addition, guests in attendance included official dignitaries and delegations from several embassies based in Nepal: Dean R. Thompson, Veronique Lorenzo, Delegation of the European Union in Nepal, Aidan Boreham (Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy), Estelle Remondelauz (Head of Consular Affairs, Embassy of Switzerland), Jeniffer Das (Economic and Political Affairs, US Embassy), and David R. Scorski.
Esteemed individuals, including the Political Officer from the US Embassy, Pema Tenzin, the Refugee Affairs Specialist from the US Embassy, Leela Devaradjalou from the Embassy of France, and Grace from USAID at the US Embassy, attended the event. Dignitaries in attendance comprised Dr Gopal Shivakoti, Chairman of Inhured International; Bhawani Prasad Kharel, Chairman of the Human Rights Organisation for Nepal; Kapil Shrestha, Human Rights Activist, and Indra Prasad Aryal, President of HURON.
A diverse group of over 2000 attendees, including Tibetan parliamentarians, Tibetan settlement officers, heads of Tibetan Association groups, monks, and members from governmental and non-governmental organisations, gathered to celebrate the 89th Birthday Anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The grand celebration ended with a series of cultural performances. First, the Nepal Tibetan Lhamo Association performed a Lhamo opera dance, followed by yak and snow lion dances from Trehor Kyiduk School in Nepal. The event concluded with traditional songs by the four Tibetan schools under the Central Tibetan Administration.
On the second day of His Holiness’ birthday celebration, the Nepal Tibetan Lhamo Association presented the story of Sukyi Nyima (Ache Lhamo), Tibetan opera performance.
