Dharamshala: The Tibet Museum organised an outreach program (4-5 July 2022) to celebrate the 87th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The first day of the program was held at Tibetan Children’s Village School, Upper Dharamshala (Upper TCV) and the second day at Tibetan Children’s Village School, Lower Dharamshala (Lower TCV).
The first day of the event started at the school morning assembly with a welcome note given by Wangchuk, Senior section Headmaster of Upper TCV, and later Tenzin Topdhen, Director of the Tibet Museum, who gave a brief overview of the program and did an interactive session with the students. All the students from the senior section (class VI-XII) and the junior section (class II-V) actively took part in activities including the screening of a short animated movie ‘In search of the Jewel’ and an exhibition on ‘Pictorial biography of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’.
The exhibition highlighted the following aspects – early life and responsibilities, meeting with Indian and global leaders, awards and honours conferred and his four main commitments, whereas the short animated movie is based on the how next incarnation of the Dalai Lama is found.
The Tibet Museum continued the outreach program on the second day at Tibetan Children’s Village School, Lower Dharamshala (Lower TCV) on 5 July 2022.
The event started with a greeting from Tsering Kunphel, Headmaster of Lower TCV, followed by a brief overview of the program and an interactive session with the students initiated by the Tibet Museum staff. After that, the students from class I – V (60 students approx.) actively participated in the screening of a short animated movie and exhibition.
The report from The Tibet Museum remarked “It was a moment of great pleasure to have noticed the curiosity and interest shown by students; some were even found taking notes of the information that was new to them. Irrespective of the nature of the question, most of the students had approached our staff with queries and questions they had. Altogether, school administrators, teachers and students appreciated the initiation and we are genuinely encouraged to host more programs in the future. Moreover, it is our honour to bring schools closer to museums and introduce interactive learning to the students.”
