Tokyo: Tibet House Japan starts its two-month Tibetan language class on Saturday, 1 October 2022. Representative Arya welcomed the students attending the class in person at the Office and online. He thanked the participants for their interest in Tibet and the Tibetan language and assured them that a good effort would be made to impart information on Tibetan history, religion, and culture along with the language.
Representative Arya said that learning a foreign language is an excellent way to understand the arts and culture of other nations. Tibetan culture is a culture of compassion influenced by the ancient Bon teaching and Buddhism from India. Speaking on the importance of the Tibetan language, he said there are many books on Tibetan Buddhism in different languages. Still, the Tibetan language is the best way to understand the teachings. Many Buddhist texts have been translated from Sanskrit to Tibetan since the 7th century, and these original Sanskrit texts have been lost in India.
As the Coronavirus pandemic restrictions and mask regulations are still in operation, the Office has taken due care and preparation to ward off possible infection and spread of the virus.
Those attending the class in person are mostly from Tokyo city, and online participants are from different parts of Japan. A young lady has come all the way from Tochigi prefecture to attend the class. The students expressed their interest in learning the Tibetan language to enhance their understanding of Tibetan spiritual culture and further their knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism.
Tashi Yangzom, Tselha, and Hasegawa of the Office will assist Representative Dr. Arya in conducting the Tibetan language class. The class will be held regularly every Saturday for two months.
