
New Delhi: On 6 July 2025, the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, New Delhi marked the historic occasion of His Holiness 90th birthday, by organising a formal dinner reception to the ambassadors of different countries. And the Bureau Office, honouring His Holiness, held a Thangka and photo exhibition on His Holiness’s four principal commitment, at the India Habitat Centre.
The event drew approximately 250 people, including ambassadors from United States, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Finland and Comoros, as well as deputy chief of missions, senior diplomats from 15 countries, along with distinguished Indian dignitaries, and long-time Tibetan supporters also joined the event.
The former Indian Diplomat, Lakhan Mehrotra graced the event as chief guest. In his deeply personal and evocative tribute, Ambassador Mehrotra recollected his early association with His Holiness as the Government of India’s Liaison Officer in Dharamshala from 1961–62. Reflecting on their youthful friendship and shared experiences in Dharamshala, he praised the spiritual stature and enduring grace of His Holiness.“His Holiness has been a phenomenal symbol of continuity in an era of phenomenal change, inspiring the world with the Buddha’s message of truth, compassion, and non-violence,” he said.
“Tibet’s loss has been the world’s gain. The wonder boy from Taktser has been available to humanity entire ever since. He is India’s most revered guest; illuminating the hearts and minds of millions in India and the world with his spiritual message of love, peace and harmony.”, he added.
Representative Jigme Jungney, Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, New Delhi, addressed the celebration where he highlighted on four core commitments of His Holiness. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India for its longstanding hospitality and support for His Holiness and the Tibetans in exile. He also thanked the international community on behalf of all the Tibetans for their decade long support to Tibetans.
As a part of Ghoton’s program, the Delhi Ghoton Organising Committee published a large advertisement extending 90th birthday wishes to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, along with a reprint of His Holiness’s reincarnation statement released on 2nd July, in the national’s newspaper ‘The Indian Express’. Over 57,000 copies were distributed across Delhi NCR on July 6. The Organising Committee also placed huge billboards at eight different locations across Delhi, extending 90th birthday wishes to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
