
Bengaluru: On 10 September 2024, Bengaluru University’s 59th annual convocation celebrated the achievements of 31,383 graduates. Among them were seven PhD scholars from the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education (DLIHE), who earned their doctoral degrees in Tibetan Studies. Five of these scholars—Tsewang Topla, Lobsang Nyendak, Lobsang Ngodup, Kunchok, and Sonam Gyaltsen—were present at the ceremony.
Additionally, 61 DLIHE students received Bachelor’s degrees: 29 in BA, 12 in BBA, 11 in B.Com, and 9 in BCA. The convocation also recognised 168 students with gold medals and a range of academic distinctions: 21,853 with distinction, 5,861 with first class, 1,289 with second class, and 603 who passed without classification.
The event featured addresses from UGC Vice-Chairman Deepak Kumar Srivastava and Higher Education Minister Dr MC Sudhakar and was overseen by Dr Jayakara SM, Vice-Chancellor; Sheik Latheef, Registrar; and Prof. C Srinivas, Registrar (Evaluation), along with members of the Syndicate and the Academic Council. This year, 140 PhD degrees were awarded overall, including those from DLIHE.
The convocation underscored Bangalore University’s and DLIHE’s commitment to academic excellence. CTA’s Chief Representative Officer of South Zone, Jigmey Tsultrim, and DLIHE Principal, Dr Tenzin Pasang, were present to support and encourage the graduates. DLIHE, an affiliated college of Bangalore University and a recognised centre for Tibetan Studies, continues to foster academic achievement.
At the ceremony, Tenzin Kalden, a Tibetan student, was also awarded a gold medal for her academic achievements in B.Sc (Speech and Hearing).
