
Brussels: Representative Tashi Phuntsok, Office of Tibet, Brussels visited Jamyang Lophel Sunday School yesterday. It is one of the 6 schools run by Chorig Zinkyong in Belgium. The schools have 331 students and 54 volunteer teachers. Tibetan families send their children to these schools for learning the Tibetan language and culture.
Mr. Phuntsok visited every class and he engaged with the students respectively. He spoke briefly about the Central Tibetan Administration and also about the urgent necessity for Tibetans to learn their language and preserve their culture given that the dire situation inside Tibet.

He then met with the administrator and teachers at the end of the visit. School administrator Mr. Jigme briefly presented a background of the school and its activities. He recalled the various ways the Representative and the Office of Tibet have assisted and encouraged in their work including financial assistance. Representative paid tribute to them for their wonderful volunteer work. He emphasised the fundamental role that a teacher plays in guiding and shaping the life of the students. He also shared some of his experiences, as a teacher, in teaching methodology and classroom management.
Earlier in the month, Mr. Phuntsok participated in Geneva Forum in Switzerland. He presented a critical paper on “Combating Fears of a China-led Orwellian World”.
He also accompanied the Speaker of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile Mr. Pema Jungney on the occasion of 25th Anniversary celebrations of Casa del Tibet (Tibet House), Barcelona for week-long events from November 16-22. Ven. Thupten Wangchen, Director of Casa del Tibet and Tibetan parliament member in Europe led the event featuring lectures, film shows, book launch, sacred music, and Tibetan culture. A meeting of the Tibetan community was also arranged. The Speaker spoke on the democratization of the Tibetan community in exile and the Representative on the political and international outlook of Tibetan issues.
