Brussels: After the successful conclusion of the 22nd edition of the festival of Tibet and the Himalayan people, Representative Rigzin Choedon Genkhang from the Bureau du Tibet, Brussels, on Tuesday called on Jean-Luc Romero, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of Human Rights, integration and the fight against discrimination.
During the meeting, Representative Genkhang expressed her gratitude for his continued support for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tibet and its people. The Representative then briefed him on the most pressing issues in Tibet, including the fate of one million Tibetan children who were forcibly separated from their families and sent to colonial-style boarding schools to be assimilated by the Chinese government.
The Deputy Mayor expressed his gravest concerns to the worsening situation in Tibet and reaffirmed his commitment to continued support for His Holiness and his people.
The two sides had friendly and constructive discussions.
His Holiness was conferred honorary citizenship by the city of Paris in 2009. The then Mayor Bertrand Delanoë honoured His Holiness despite strong criticism from China.
