
Tokyo: Tibetans in Japan elected the new Standing Committee Members of the Tibetan Community in Japan (TCJ) on 22 September at the Tibet House Office and through online ballots. The official handing and taking over function was held today at the Tibet House Japan’s office. Representative Dr Tsewang Gyalpo Arya and the staff of Tibet House presided over the function and witnessed the handing and taking over.
Representative Dr Arya, while thanking the outgoing Chairman Tenzin Sherab and the members for their dedicated service, welcomed the new Chairman Dorjee Shiota and the new members of the 13th Standing Committee members of the Tibetan Community in Japan. He offered traditional Tibetan scarves to the outgoing and incoming members and expressed his hope and enthusiasm for working with new committee members to further the Tibetan cause and share the message of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in the region.
The outgoing Chairman Tenzin Sherab thanked the Tibet House and the Tibetan community for their help and cooperation and reported on the activities organised by the Committee during their two-year term. Dorjee Shiota, the new Chairman, thanked the Tibetan community for their trust in him and the committee members to lead the work and activities of the community and promised to do their best in promoting the Tibetan movement.
The 13th Committee of the TCJ comprises Chairman Dorjee Shiota and the members: Lodi Gyatso, Tenzin Tsering, Karma Gyatso, and Tenzin Tsundue. Duty allocation of the members will be done after an internal discussion.
The Tibetan Community in Japan was formed in the late 1990s to look after the welfare of the Tibetans and to encourage communication among the Tibetans. It also aims to promote friendship and exchange with the Japanese and other communities in Japan through festivals and other social and cultural activities. The TCJ works with the Japanese and other communities to promote awareness of freedom, democracy, and human rights issues in Asia and the world.
