Dharamsala: Deputy Speaker Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile met with Professor Geshe Thupten Dorjee and two other staff along with 17 students from the University of Arkansas at Tibetan Parliamentary secretariat today on 21 June. They came to Tibetan Parliament as part of their three-week Tibetans in Exile today (TEXT) program which began from 17 May.
At the meeting in the Tibetan Parliament Hall, Deputy Speaker briefed them about the past history of Tibet and the current situation of Tibetans both inside and outside Tibet. He further elucidated in detail about the procedure of the parliamentary session, revenue collection of Central Tibetan Administration and election of Tibetan Parliament members. He urged them to support the cause of Tibet and inform Tibet-related issues to their respective members of parliament in their countries.
The TEXT Program allows students to spend three weeks in the summer living in the Tibetan refugee settlements in India as they gather these vital stories of the elderly Tibetans. Trained in Tibetan culture and oral history by Professor Burris and Geshe Thupten Dorjee before leaving for the settlements, students design and conduct the interviews, process the footage, creates the transcripts, and upload the resulting materials to their online archive.
