Dharamshala: Due to the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus, nations across the globe have strictly imposed a lockdown and ban on outdoor activities in an effort to prevent the further spread of the virus.
The Nepal government has similarly imposed a nationwide lockdown from 24 March and the Tibetan community in Nepal led by settlement officers have opted preventive measures as per the guidelines of the Nepal government and in coordination with the directives issued by CTA.
Various NGOs and independent groups came forward to aid the Tibetan settlements in Nepal with a supply of masks and sanitisation kit.
Ghangchen Detsa has donated around 800 masks to Shawara settlement. Similarly, help Tibet organisation has contributed 60 masks. Moreover, residents above the age of 65 have been distributed SORIG immune booster as per directed by Kashag. Quarantine facility has also been set up near the settlement although no cases so far have been reported in the community.
In addition, Tibetans facing a financial crisis during a difficult time has been aided through CTA relief fund and individual donors. A total of 2,160,600 NPR has been distributed to the Tibetans in need.
