Bhandara: The Norgyeling Tibetan settlement in Bhandara commemorated the 89th birthday anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama with a two-day celebration.
The event was honoured by the chief guest, Tehsildar Anirudh Jha, alongside Amrut Bhansal, President of the Nagpur Bharat Tibbat Maitri Sangh Association, and Ashok Mende from the Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Movement, along with their members. Dignitaries from the Indian office and the SHO from the Gondia district were in attendance.
The Bhandara Norgyeling community members of all ages gathered to celebrate His Holiness’s 89th birthday, including monks from the Sera Jey Ling and Nyingma Monasteries to perform a traditional ritual, a poignant way to commemorate the 89th birthday anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The official proceedings commenced with the delivery of statements from the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and Kashag. Subsequently, the Chief Guest, Tehsildar Anirudh Jha, in the presence of other esteemed district officials, solemnly pledged to present the ‘Record of Tenancy Certificate’ as a generous gesture to the Tibetan community in honour of His Holiness’ 89th Birthday Anniversary during his public address.
At the ceremony, office officials and accountants received certificates from the Department of Home, recognising their excellence in public service with the Excellence Award. Additionally, distinguished former members of the Tibetan Women’s Association in the region were honoured with certificates presented by the Tibetan Women’s Association during the event.
The event concluded with cultural showcases by school students and community members. Later that evening, the community continued the festivities with a traditional Gorshey dance honouring His Holiness’s birthday.
On the second day of His Holiness’s birthday celebration on 7 July 2024, the Tibetan Folk Opera ‘The Brothers Dhonyoe and Dhondup’ was performed by Cholsum Lhamo Association, Bandara followed by fete organised by Norgyeling Federation of Tibetan Cooperative.
