Dharamshala: MP Garnett Genius of Sherwood Park-Fort Saskatchewan addressed the Opposition Day motion last Tuesday calling for a special committee to review in all aspects the Canada-China relationship while allegedly condemning Trudeau led government’s admiration for China’s “basic dictatorship”.
Urging the parliament, MP Garnett said, “Canada can be a stronger voice on the world stage for human rights and counter the efforts of the Chinese government’s repressive model around the world”.
He equated the repressive policy of the Chinese government to that of Geroge Orwell’s model where constant surveillance and social credit system are used as a means to control.
“Orwellian’s authoritarianism is not what Canadians want. It is not what almost anyone wants. We must stand together against this oppressive political model” said the Canadian politician.
MP Garnett urged for a special committee to scrutinize the gross violations of fundamental human rights inside Tibet, Xinjiang, Hong Kong. Furthermore, he condemned the Canadian Pension Plight Investment Board’s large stake in the Hikvision-which is thought to be controlled by the Chinese government – is the world’s largest supplier of video surveillance technology. Apparently the company is known for working closely with China’s military and playing a significant role in Uyghur imprisonment.
Drawing the parliament’s focus on the case of Tibet, MP said, “Escalating persecution of Tibetans including the continuation of a long-standing policy of repression of religious, culture and linguistic freedom. One of the latest developments in the effort by China government to control the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama.”
“The atheist, materialist and Marxist government purport to be able to determine the Dalai Lama succession by knowing and identifying his reincarnation. This would be comical if it was not deadly serious.”
“We have seen before, with the real Panchen Lama being disappeared and the Chinese government advancing the wrong candidate instead. This is one of many serious violations of religious freedom that we see in Tibet.”
Likewise, he shared accounts of similar predicaments faced by the Uyghurs in Xinjiang, Christians in China, and the Hong Kongers who are dealing with escalating devastating persecution by the Chinese government.
MP Garnett also highlighted the growing concern of freedom of speech in the universities of Canada, the challenge he noted is made significantly worse by the foreign government’s actions.
“Parliamentary scrutiny is required. We reject any admiration about basic dictatorship and we believe in the principle of parliamentary scrutiny over the executive. We have the power to assert that the principle of parliamentary sovereignty and we will,” he concluded.
