Dharamshala: As the COVID-19 epidemic spreads at an alarming rate across the world, Health Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk of the Central Tibetan Administration today addressed a few crucial points regarding the novel COVID-19 and the initiatives being taken by the Health Department in addressing the disease.

Speaking exclusively to Tibet News Bureau, Kalon said, “The life-threatening novel COVID-19 outbreak originated from Wuhan is spreading at an alarming rate as per the cases reported, However, we have not yet identified any such case within our Tibetan community”. Kalon, however, advised vigilance and precaution of the uncertainty and appealed the people to follow the rules and health guidelines issued by CTA’s Health Department.

“Our department has issued and circulated the Dos and Dont’s to stall the spread of the outbreak in the Tibetan communities for the public adherence”, said Kalon.

The Department also ordered the Tibetan hospitals and clinics to stock up on surgical masks, sanitizers, and medicines.

Alerting on the rumors circulating in communities, Kalon appealed the public to steer away from such rumors and emphasised on the need for proper awareness.

” We have partnered up with the local Indian doctors and medical experts of the Tibetan settlements and offered our cooperation and support to stop the further spread of the virus”, Kalon informed.

He further informed that the Tibetan schools have been given awareness programs and workshops on health guidelines and preventive measures.

Speaking on the situation of Tibetans inside Tibet, Kalon said that the confirmation regarding individuals affected is yet to be confirmed due to a lack of transparency in China.

Finally, Kalon called for the collective responsibility in combating the disease and requested to strictly follow the rules and health regulations issued by the authorities.
