
Local Law Secretary Dawa Choedon briefs students on the three pillars of Tibetan democracy, judicial authority, and court structures in Tibetan exile and India.
Bylakuppe: At the request of the Bylakuppe Sambhota Tibetan School’s office, the Local Tibetan Justice Commission (Southern Region) received 16 class VIII students, along with their Social Science teacher Rinchen Dolma, on 30 October 2024 to visit the office as part of their education tour.
During the session, the office secretary Dawa Choedon introduced the students to the three pillars of Tibetan democracy in exile, the importance of judicial system and its jurisdiction, and about the civil and criminal laws. She also provided awareness about the various levels within the Tibetan justice system by drawing comparisons with that of Indian government.
Subsequently, the Local Tibetan Justice Commissioner Phuntsok Palden addressed the students’ questions regarding the legal procedures of both the Indian and Tibetan justice systems. He used case studies from both communities to further illuminate these concepts for the students.
