Bylakuppe: On Sunday, 22 September 2024, the Joint Director of Agriculture, Deepaja, from the Karnataka state government made her maiden visit to the Organic Research and Training Centre (ORTC) in Bylakuppe. She was accompanied by Tibetan Settlement Officers Gelek Jungney (Lugsung Samdupling) and Chime Dorjee (Dickey Larsoe).

During the visit, the Tibetan Settlement Officers tabled the issue of drought compensation and future agricultural assistance for the settlements. The Joint Director of Agriculture assured that she would thoroughly investigate these matters to provide the necessary support.

Additionally, the ORTC raised concerns regarding citrus farmers struggling with fruit marketing during the meeting. Joint Director Deepaja noted that these exotic citrus varieties are not recognised by local or state markets and are primarily intended for export. However, she guaranteed to inform ORTC if any potential vendors could be found.

Deepaja further suggested the development of ornamental plants in the ORTC polyhouse, highlighting the availability of a reliable market for such products. She expressed keen interest in witnessing the establishment of an ornamental nursery during her next visit.
