Bengaluru: The state government of Karnataka has, for the fiscal year 2023-2024, approved the budget sanction of Rs 3 crores for the welfare of the Tibetan community across Karnataka. In the previous two fiscal years (2021-2022 and 2022-2023 ), the Karnataka government approved Rs 2 crores in succession for the welfare of five Tibetan settlements under the jurisdiction of the Chief Representative Office of South Zone and for the latter’s administrative expenses. The budget has been sanctioned primarily for the development of key areas such as education, social welfare, old people’s homes, preservation of culture, renovation of houses of the destitute, environment protection, mid-day meal scheme, tourism development, youth empowerment and sports, and village development.
The Chief Representative Office of the South Zone on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the five Tibetan settlements expresses gratitude to the state government and the people for the monetary aid and appeals for continued support. The office has filed the submission pertaining to the background of the undertakings and the objectives to the state’s Revenue Department.
On 7 October 2023, at the meeting presided over by the Principal Secretary, the Chief Representative Office of the South Zone apprised the immediate and long-term concerns of the Tibetan exile community.
Karnataka is home to five Tibetan settlements, namely Lugsung Samdupling, Mundgod Doeguling, Dickey Larsoe, Hunsur Rabgayling, and Kollegal Dhondenling. The Tibetan community in this region has received unwavering support from former Chief Minister S. Nijalingappa to his successors to date.
