Kalimpong: Tibetans from Kalimpong, Darjeeling, and Gangtok had organised a long life ceremony for His Holiness the Dalai Lama last year on 3 September and committed to working hard towards retaining the Tibetan identity by reviving, preserving and promoting the Tibetan language thus their aspiration for a practical approach led to a formation of Tibetan Language Preservation Committee on 17th of this month on Lhakar.
The committee consists of 7 members including school teachers, representatives from three provinces, representative of Gangjong Tibetan Performing Arts and a representative from monasteries.
Since the Tibetans are spread over in different places and the children are studying in native places, therefore, Gangjong Tibetan Performing Arts have been organising various events to promote and preserve Tibetan language and culture. This committee would support and help Gangjong Tibetan Performing Arts in carrying out the events with the same goals.
The Committee’s future plans:
-To have a meeting with the parents of the children.
-To advertise and spread awareness on Tibetan language highlighting speeches on the importance of the Tibetan language, send notice of events on the Tibetan language through social media; Facebook.
-Organise Tibetan class for the children on weekends
-To observe and celebrate Tibetan handwriting and Language day.
-To educate about the auspicious days of Tibet.
