Rome, Italy: On 10 March 2026, the Tibetan community in Italy, alongside supporters and human rights advocates, gathered in Rome to commemorate the 67th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day. The observance honoured the 1959 uprising in Lhasa against Chinese rule and paid tribute to the courage and sacrifices of those who resisted.
The event was jointly organised by the Tibetan Community in Italy and the Tibetan Women’s Association in Italy, attracting diaspora members, Italian supporters, and representatives from cultural and civil organisations. Italian political figures expressed solidarity, including Matteo Angioli, advisor to Senator Giulio Terzi; Luciano Nobili, Regional Councillor of Lazio; Andrea Presutto, General Secretary to Senator Andrea De Priamo; and Nicola Massiani, Regional Councillor of Emilia-Romagna. Civil society was represented by Marilia Bellaterra, President of the AREF Association, and Paolo di Sarsina, President of the Jamtseling Centre.
Speakers at the gathering highlighted the historical significance of the 1959 uprising, emphasising the resilience of the Tibetan people and the continued importance of global attention to Tibet’s human rights, cultural preservation, and religious freedom. The commemoration stressed unity, peaceful advocacy, and international cooperation, reinforcing strong ties between the Italian and Tibetan communities.
By remembering the past while advocating for Tibet’s future, the event served not only as a tribute to resilience but also as a platform to strengthen international support for justice, peace, and the continued protection of Tibetan identity worldwide.
