Dharamshala: During June 2026, significant progress was made in enhancing digital healthcare and telemedicine services across healthcare facilities in southern India through the implementation of key health technology initiatives.
From 3–12 June 2026, the Open Medical Record (MRS) system was successfully deployed at Sera Mey Hospital. Previously reliant on manual record-keeping, the hospital now benefits from a digital health record system that enables efficient management of patient information, improved data handling, enhanced patient tracking, streamlined clinical workflows, and timely report generation to support better healthcare delivery.
During the same period, a monitoring visit was conducted at four southern hospitals already utilising OpenMRS. The team assessed system utilisation, gathered user feedback, strengthened staff capacity, identified operational challenges, and addressed technical issues to promote the effective and sustainable use of the platform.
Further strengthening digital health services, a Telepsychiatry Software Training was conducted in Bylakuppe from 15–16 June 2026, bringing together telepsychiatry nurses from four southern healthcare facilities. The training introduced a new telepsychiatry software integrated into the existing Department of Health Telemedicine system. Through hands-on sessions, participants enhanced their understanding of the software’s features and workflows, improving their capacity to deliver effective telepsychiatry services across their respective centres.
These initiatives contributed to advancing healthcare digitisation, strengthening clinical service delivery, and improving access to specialised mental health care through technology-enabled solutions.
Both activities were made possible through the generous support of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (USDOS/SCA).
