Mundgod: Mundgod settlement’s DTR hospital launched a free eye check-up and a surgery camp from 8th – 23rd July 2022 respectively for the Public on funding from The Tibet Fund, USA through Department of Health, CTA. 

A total of 109 Patients have benefitted through free eye check-ups, out of which 19 patients were referred and advised for required treatment based on their condition. 

Patients requiring advanced procedures were referred to MM Joshi Eye Hospital on 25th July where two nurses from DTR Hospital were assigned to assist and support them during the eye surgery/treatment. 

A post-operative examination was held by the doctors visiting the settlement with no post-operative complications. The service resulted in an improved vision for 19 operated patients and made eye service affordable and accessible. It has created awareness among the general public regarding eye-related problems. Follow-up tests of patients were also provided at DTR hospital by an Ophthalmologist visit once every week.

Through this initiative, the community was able to strengthen the community-based blindness relief activities by means of a cataract camp to eliminate avoidable blindness in our community.
