London: On December 10th, commemorating International Human Rights Day, a significant event spotlighting Tibet was held at the Skalvija Cinema Center in Vilnius.
The event, drawing approximately 100 attendees, was organised by the Tibet Support Group initiative. It featured the screening of the 2022 documentary “Never Forget Tibet” by Jean-Paul Martinez.
Konstantinas Andrijauskas, Associate Professor at the Institute of International Relations and Political Sciences of Vilnius University, opened the event. He provided an overview of Tibet’s situation, tracing its history from the Chinese invasion in 1950 to current times.
Highlighting the human rights situation in Tibet and our collective responsibility, Andrijauskas pointed out that amidst various regional and global crises, the gravest is the moral crisis facing our “civilized world.”
“We invite danger in the future when we turn a blind eye, don’t listen, or distract ourselves from such issues,” Andrijauskas cautioned. He emphasised the deep empathy Lithuanians have for Tibetans, stemming from their own recent history under a totalitarian regime and occupation.
