Taipei, Taiwan: Under the leadership of a Representative of OoT, Tibetan associations jointly with Taiwan associations held a meeting on ‘Finding the common Ground’ in Taipei on 27 November. This year the topic was how the democracies of Taiwan and exiled Tibetans could influence China in the future.
The writer Lob Heu Jon presided as the chief guest, joined by OoT Representative Kelsang Gyaltsen Bawa who introduced the aim of the conference and the rules and regulations of the conference, President of the Tibetan associations Tashi Tsering, Professor Tsim Chan Yon who gave the inaugural address. The first session was on awareness of democracy and the exchange of experiences from six experts. The first speaker Professor Ming Xia of The City University of New York addressed the gathering on awareness of democracy, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s vision, and Tibetan exile democracy.
Professor Chu-Cheng Ming of the National Taiwan University, Department of Political Science addressed the recent regional election results of Taiwan which would influence the future relations between China and Taiwan, Taiwan’s policy-making, and the global situation.
Taiwan Representative briefed about the Tibetan democracy which was established as per the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama upon arrival into exile and its evolution into the diaspora of the Tibetan community. He was followed by the well-known reporter and researcher Hri Pang Ming Hru who spoke from the perspective of an outsider of the Taiwan democracy. Former Hong Kong Legislative member and now a resident of Taiwan, Shoe Petil spoke about the Hong Kong issue.
